This January recruitment period is typically a period of intense speculation and possible big-money transfers. Several notable stars find themselves connected to transfers away from their present clubs. We examine some of the top figures who are poised to be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to reach the AFCON, this has left the player available, it appears a significant move is close. The Bournemouth attacker possesses a deal with a sizeable release clause active for a two-week period in early January. Recent reports point to Manchester City look to have won the race for his services. Other interested parties such as Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have moved on to other options, leaving teams like Liverpool or Manchester United to make a late move.

Marc Guéhi

The English centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace despite a summer transfer to Anfield collapsing. As his contract set to run out in the close season, this represents the London club's last chance to secure a transfer fee for their skipper. Numerous elite clubs, such as Manchester City and several European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly be interested. However, a winter departure remains unlikely, particularly given the manager's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

This Wales forward has found starting opportunities hard to come by at Tottenham this term. Although being the side's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has started only a handful of Premier League matches. The Portugal playmaker might be set for a comeback to the English top flight after a period in Saudi Arabia. Still only 28, and with his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he is a potential opportunity. Clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the player. Additionally, there have been rumours from Spanish media that he would be prepared to take a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

This veteran German goalkeeper is now as third-choice at Barcelona following the manager Hansi Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had an operation, a winter exit looks highly probable. Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that option currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be showing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This prolific English centre-forward has continued finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League could boost his fading chances of being in the England World Cup. But, arranging a deal presents significant challenges. His current club do not wish to sell him, and his reported enormous salary render any move difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as admirers.

Due to specific rules regarding representing two clubs in a season, a move back to his parent club prior to next summer seems to be the sole viable solution.

K. Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkey forward is in excellent form for the Italian giants this season. As his current contract running down, a host of Premier League clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the situation. The Turin club are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term contract but face a race to retain one of the continent's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. After impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. This 19-year-old is heavily expected to complete a major transfer this month. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but could face strong rivalry from the Spanish champions for a deal valued at around £22 million.
