Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
